Sales of passenger cars from local automobile companies has decreased by 11 percent in November 2017 compared to the previous month.

According to the statistics updated by Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), the sales of locally assembled vehicles have decreased to 17,233 units in November 2017 as against 19,400 units sold in the month of October 2017, showing a drop of 2,167 units.

The overall production dropped by 7.7 percent in November 2017 to reach 17,423 units compared to 18,893 units reported in the month of October.

Industry experts said the local assemblers can’t meet the supply against the hike of demand, especially for mid-sized and small car models, and customers have started to move towards reconditioned Japanese cars of corresponding engine capacity. This has reduced the overall production recently.

Among the 1,000 variants, the sales of Cultus and WagonR by Pak Suzuki Company decreased to 4,936 units, down from 3,479 units November 2017 compared to October, showing a decline of 1,457 units.

Among 800CC cars, Suzuki Mehran and Bolan sales have dropped to 5,667 units from 6,459 units, depicting a decrease in sales by 792 units.

On the other hand, the sales of 1,300 CC and above have remained stable with 8,087 units sold in November 2017 compared to 8,005 units in October.

The sales of Toyota Corolla stood at 4,537 units whereas the sales of City and Civic stood at 3,208 units in November.

Industry experts say that the demand and supply gap get worse from January onwards as the production of the local manufacturers is limited but the prevailing demand of passengers increasing with respect to the market. Furthermore, the demand of locally assembled cars will substantially increase if policies on imported cars remain unchanged.

According to the details, buyers need to arrange foreign currency themselves to buy imported cars from different countries.

Despite limited production of the local assemblers, the current financial year is promising record breaking sales for the brands.

The total sales of passenger cars registered a double digit growth of 21 percent during July to November 2017 to reach 87,273 units, 15,396 units higher than the previous year.
